How it stands in society - TODAY -
The Aztecs have had a great impact on todays society. The Aztec culture was very independent, they all wanted a good education and high paying jobs. The Aztecs were the first that required education for all primary school aged children without the regard of social status or gender. This has influenced the modern society as they have set the standards for equality between sexes, races and cultural backgrounds. I believe that someone had to make this step in ensuring that everybody was treated with equality and the fact that The Aztecs have made this decision had had a great and positive impact on our society.
The Aztec played a game called ‘’Tlachtli’’ which was a recreational ball game that was played on a daily basis. In todays society we have taken the basic idea of this game and transformed it into many other ball games such as rugby, soccer and tennis.
The Aztecs were the first to invent a functional calendar, this calendar was based around celestial events. The calendar we use today have been influenced by the original idea of The Aztecs calendar. Much like The Aztecs, our calendar is based around public holidays, religious events such as Christmas and Easter and various significant events to human kind.
The Aztecs have had a very significant influence on modern day Mexico. This has been through concepts such as traditions and culture. The Mexican coat of arms, huarache footwear, the ‘’huipi’’ clothing, dance, music, plastic arts and a mixed tradition with the Spanish conquistadores now known as ‘Day of the Dead’ have also had a great influence from The Aztec culture in modern day Mexico.
The Aztecs have had an important influence on modern societies cuisine; especially in Mexico. Aztec cuisine has been passed on throughout generations in the modern Mexican society including a diet based on beans, squash, maize, tomato and chilli. These five ingredients are still heavily used in Mexican cooking and in many recipes across the globe.
